Hire and late fees
Up to 4 toys may be borrowed at a time. 1 of these can be from the "big toy" category if desired (marked MTB BT##).
The initial 1 or 2 weeks rental will be paid at the time of borrowing. Members should return or re-hire their toys online to avoid an overdue fee. Re-hiring fees are recorded on the members borrowing record and are to be paid upon return of toys.
Most toys can be hired for a total of 6 weeks from the initial borrowing date.
Toys which are not returned within 6 weeks and 5 days of the initial borrowing date will incur an overdue fee of $20.
All toys must be returned for the end of year stocktake in December.
Care for toys and containers
Toys and containers must be wiped clean and dried before their return. Please use a cloth dampened with mild household detergent. Unless marked as a water toy, toys must not be immersed in water.
All storage containers and bags will be returned with toys. If storage containers or bags are lost or damaged, a contribution toward replacement may be requested.
If parts that are integral to a toy’s function cannot be found:
The member may be asked to re-borrow the toy until the missing piece is located.
If such parts still cannot be found the member may be asked to pay for a replacement toy .
The toy library accepts responsibility for wear and tear of toys through ordinary play. If a toy is damaged through inappropriate use the member must buy the toy at a depreciated cost.
Please take care of your loans and follow all instructions and warnings on the toy packaging. We accept responsibility for normal wear and tear, but toys that are damaged through misuse incur repair costs or a replacement fee.
Use the following checklist to help keep our toys in great condition:
Before you open the toy at home carefully read the notes on the packaging. Do not use toys in water, sand or dirt unless they are labelled as a water-, dirt- or sand- play toy. Please only use toys suitable for outdoor use outside. Outside toys should be kept under cover (away from sunlight and water) when not in use.
Count and check all toy pieces against the list on the toy packaging. You may find it useful to view the toy record online by logging into SeTLS. Refer to the notes below on missing parts if you cannot find a toy part.
Clean all toy parts and packaging. Please use a damp cloth (using a solution of dishwashing detergent and water) to wipe down surfaces. A cotton bud or skewer with a cottonwool or soft fabric on the tip should be used to clearn hard to reach places. Do not immerse toys in water (unless marked as a water toy) as they may become waterlogged.
Notify a shift volunteer of any issues when you return toys.
We understand that toy parts sometimes go missing. When you lose a toy part we encourage you to hold onto the toy until you can find the missing piece. If you cannot find it before returning the toy please notify a volunteer.
While we can usually find a replacement, you may be required to cover the cost of a unique or essential missing part.
